How to Use Baking Soda to Fight off Colds and The Flu

As the weather begins to get colder, with it comes the inevitable colds and flu, which makes it hard to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and all the activities that go along with the harvest time.

UNTIL…

AAAAAAAH-chooooo! Cold season happens.

It doesn’t matter how badly you wish against a sickness when you hear someone near you sneeze. Wishful thinking isn’t enough to keep these viruses and bacteria at bay.

Instead, grab some baking soda, which has been used to fight off the flu and colds for nearly 100 years. One of the biggest producers of baking soda, Arm & Hammer, did a study of the effects of baking soda on colds and the flu in 1925 and found it to be very effective.

baking sodaWhat actualy is BAKING SODA and how it works in your body?

Baking soda is also called sodium bicarbonate and is derived from a mineral that is naturally-occurring. One of its most important properties is that it is extremely alkaline. This reduces the acidity levels in your body and will help to alkalize your body. By balancing out the pH level in your body, baking soda helps prevent you from contracting colds and the flu.

Here is how to use this safe and natural remedy:

  1. Each “dose” consists of ½ a teaspoon of baking soda stirred into 1 cup of water.
  1. Follow this dosing schedule:
Day 1 6 doses total taken in 2 hour intervals
Day 2 6 doses total taken in 2 hour intervals
Day 3 2 doses total: 1 morning, 1 night
Until cured Take 1 dose each morning

Want to take it a step further? Here are 4 more tips to naturally preventing colds and the flu:

1. Wash your hands – Most viruses are spread through direct contact. Wash your hands often!

2. Don’t touch your face – The viruses enter your body through your mouth, nose and eyes. Avoid touching this area on yourself and other people (your children, spouse, partner, etc..).

3. Cover your sneeze safely – DON’T USE YOUR HANDS! Use a tissue or sneeze into the inside of your elbow to help prevent spreading germs.

4. Exercise frequently – Physical movement increases the body’s natural virus-killing cells.

Have a happy, healthy and flu-free season!
